Lucy & I became aware of Westmoreland Walks when one of our past brides contacted us last year about supplying music & providing a PA system for their annual event. This 5k Walk begins at the Aestique Medical Center in Greensburg and concludes at Twin Lakes.   After learning about their efforts in education, awareness, care, and research in finding a cure for so many women, we gladly volunteered our services.

Breast cancer awareness is a cause near to my heart and has hit close to home for me.  My 82 year old mother is a breast cancer survivor (10 yrs now) and she is such a sign of strength and proof that a woman can beat this horrible disease. Every day 27 women in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with breast cancer.  This is a statistic that boggled my mind.

After the registration for the walk, everyone gathers in front of the Aestique Medical Center  for a “Celebration of Life Ceremony”.  Every year, they have the most remarkable women share their experience with breast cancer. Believe me, it is amazing the courage and strength these women possess.  At the close of this ceremony, single balloons are handed out. Pink balloons are released for breast cancer survivors and the white balloons are released in memory of a wife, mother, sister, daughter, or friend of a woman who has lost the battle to this terrible disease. Over 230 single balloons were released yesterday. That’s over 230 lives who were touched by this terrible disease.

September 30, 2006 marked the 5th Annual 5K Walk/Run.  Below you will find photos of this years event. The rain and cooler weather did not hinder these dedicated, wonderful people from coming out to show their support in helping to raise money for such a worthy cause.

Next year, this event will be held on the first Saturday of October. We will be there.  Please come and join us in this “Walk For Life”.
